A member asked:

Can you tell me, are all serial killers psychopaths/sociopaths?

See below.: I am not a forensic psychiatrist, but i would say that anyone who takes another person's life suffers from a mental illness. Exposure to pain ; violence, lack of empathy, isolation of affect, disordered attachment in childhood, displacement of anger, projection of aggressive drives onto others, poor impulse control, ; poor coping ; problem solving skills may cause a person to take a life.

Likely: Rarely if ever do serial killers show remorse for their actions. Remorse suggests a person has a conscience or a sense of right and wrong. The vast majority of serial killers do not and are diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder, the hallmark of which is not having a conscience.
