Congenital uropathy: There are many different types of congenital uropathy, and the complications may vary, but, in general, the answer to your question is yes, the baby would be at risk. Some types of uropathy can be completely fixed by surgery (eg, blockage of a urinary tube), others are the result of a malformed or maldeveloped kidney, which can't be fixed directly without transplantation. Yes: Congenital obstructive lesions in urinary tract, e.g., ureteropelvic junction obstruction or ureterocele, have a lower potential to damage the kidneys when relieved early in life. Posterior urethral valve, however, requires more aggressive approach, i.e., fetal surgery, to minimize renal compromise.
