See your doctor: Anxiety can cause a heaviness or pressure in the chest or a fluttering heart beat. Benzodiazepines such as xanax (alprazolam) or Ativan usually alleviate anxiety. However, if you suffer from hypertension, you should get evaluated to see if you have a new onset or worsening heart condition that could also be causing the feeling in your chest.
