Possible phlebitis: You may be experiencing a condition called phlebitis - or an inflammation of a vein. Phlebitis can be caused by a thrombus ( blood clot), trauma (needle insertion) or by medications infused into the vein. Some chronic connective tissue disorders, such as lupus, can cause as well.
