What is the difference in medical risks, between overweight and obese?

Obesity is severe: Over-weight is when one's body mass index (bmi) is between 30 and 40. Above this level is usually categorized as obese. Higher the bmi levels, higher the risks of many disorders. Therefore, keeping the body weight normal (bmi between 21 and 28 would minimize the risks and the severity of medical disorders.

A lot!: The classifications for overweight and obese that are currently in use are based on the body mass index measurement (bmi). Studies have clearly demonstrated morbidity and mortality risks at both underweight and overweight measurements, compared to 'ideal' bmi. However, the level at which optimum risk reduction is seen is not clear, with some showing overweight as best. At obese it is increased.
