Doubtful: You could have sex once, six days before ovulation and have a 3 in 1000 chance of conceiving, because the sperm can be viable and effective for that long. It is unlikely that you would conceive by having sex seven days before ovulation.

Sperm: It is believed that sperm only survives 3 to 5 days and thus it could not fertilize an egg on day 7.

That would be: Very unlikely. But, use protection every time if you are not ready for pregnancy.

Not very likely: It is not very likely to get pregnant with having sex 7 days prior to ovulation. The reason why it is possible is that even with regular periods sometimes a woman will ovulate earlier or later than expected. And sperm can live in the cervix for up to 5 days. It is better to use an effective form of birth control and not assume you are safe.

Not truly pregnant: To "ovulate" means the egg pops out of the ovary. Before you ovulate, you have no egg. Therefore, it is impossible to get pregnant before you ovulate. However, if a woman has sex a few days before she ovulates, some sperm may survive long enough (waiting for her to ovulate) to get her pregnant after she ovulates... That happens all the time. Counting "pregnancy weeks" confuses people even more.

Agreed, one cannot get pregnant if there is no ovulation, because a union of a sperm cell and the egg is required for pregnancy to occur.
Generally, sperm cells deteriorate and lose viability after about 72 hours of ejeculation into the female. That being said, there have been reports of pregnancies resulting a week or more before ovulation. In these cases however, it is suspected that ovulation occured before it was anticipated. Since it is not possible to predict with 100% accuracy 7 days in advance when ovulation will occur, it is prudent to take prophyilactic precautions if the goal is not to get pregnant.

Possible: You are most likely to get pregnant at or several days around the time you ovulate, but there is always a possibility you can get pregnant withing a week of ovulation. If you miss your period, wait one week post missed cycle and check a urine pregnancy test. Best wishes.

Ovulation: One can never say never about pregnancy. However it usually occurs if one has sex in the few days prior to, after or during the day of ovulation. Bottom line, is that protection should be used every time you have sex if you aren't ready for pregnancy. Take care.

This is not the best: Time to try. Aim for ovulation and include a few days before and after for best results.
