Lateral ligament: Several, items in that area, but you describe lateral collateral ligament, which can be torn, stretched, etc. Lateral cartilage can also be an issue. Good orthopaedics exam and x-rays are appropriate.

Lumbar disc: The nerve supply for your leg comes from the low back. Depending on your weight and physical activity you can irritate the nerve root and cause pain. If you are very physically active you may consider iliotibial band syndrome as well.
