Muscle spasm: The key here is " lasting a few seconds" the muscles in your chest can have a short lived intense spasm lasting a few seconds. It's more often on the left side of the sternum (breast bone) where the ribs meet. Can you point with one finger where pain is? Anxiety makes it worse. You can also have a short lived spasm of the esophagus that will feel similar.
