Plasma: Blood is composed of formed elements (red cells, white cells and platelets) and the liquid portion is plasma. During a transfusion of packed red blood cells, there is also some plasma and anticoagulant in the bag, and they separate from the red cells by gravity. This is a normal finding, the color of the plasma is usually yellow.
