Usually no: Most amputations are performed under general anesthesia, though, spinal or epidural anesthesia is certainly fine if felt more appropriate by anesthesia.

Depends on the level: Toe or finger amputations may not require general anesthesia. Local anesthesia with IV sedation may be adequate.

No: Although some amputation are done without general anesthesia, the anesthesiologist will give medication so the person is not awake.
