Sleep evaluation: Sleep apnea can cause your heart rate to increase at night. Perhaps you are waking up after a breath-holding spell which caused your heart to speed up. When you awaken, your breathing starts again but your heart rate remains elevated for a short while. Could also be due to panic at night or a cardiovascular rhythm issue. Best to see your doctor for an evaluation.
