Smoking: Smoking is the primary cause of COPD in the us. There are also other potential causes including an specific enzyme deficiency, working in an industry with high amounts of dust and particulates. Poorly treated or untreated asthma can eventually become COPD after many years. Check the american lung association for more info. Good luck.
