Can you tell me about alcohol consumption and ocd/schitzophrenia?

They are associated: Many people with both ocd and schizophrenia use alcohol to "self-medicate" the anxiety which goes along with both disorders. There is no evidence that alcohol causes either problem, but in people who are genetically susceptible, early use of alcohol may bring on the onset of either problem sooner, and possibly more severely. Alcohol makes it hard to safely treat either with meds.Cessation is key.
