Have sex: Ovulation occurs between day 9 and 22 of the menstrual cycle, day one being the first of the menstrual period, day 14 being 14 days later, day 21 being 21 days later etc. A typical menstrual cycle results in ovulation between day 12-16, most often on day 14.Thus, sex every other day will keep live sperm available to fertilize the egg between day 10-22 because the egg lives 1 day, the sperm 2 days.

Good timing: Typically women ovulate 14 days before they menstruate(day 12 in a 26d cycle, day 14 in a 28d cycle, day 16 in a 30d cycle, etc.).Sperm can survive in vivo 5-6 days. The trick is to have the sperm in place when the egg is released. If sperm counts are good there is no disadvantage to having sex every day during the fertile period. So, sex daily for 6 days leading to and including the day of ovulation.
