Mammogram is the: Main screening used. Mri's can be used to obtain a more detailed view of a specific area on the breast.

Depending upon : the technical parameters of the scan, it could possibly detect a breast mass, but it would not be very reliable for that purpose. A specifically tailored Breast MRI, on the other hand, has a very high sensitivity for detecting breast lesions. But the standard of care for the initial imaging evaluation of lumps is mammography and, usually, ultrasound as well.
