See a doctor: If this swelling is new or suddenly worse, he should be seen urgently. If they are discolored, purple or black, then he needs to be seen at the emergency department. Please also be cautious about falls, as falls can be devastating in the elderly. People who have abnormal feeling in the feet can easily fall. Good luck.
