Very variable: In my practice, abruptly stopping Effexor (venlafaxine) xr has very varied results. Some people stop at that dose and are completely fine; some experience withdrawal symptoms consisting of electric like shocks, irritability, and insomnia. A call to the treating physician is in order. What was the person taking the medication for? Why did he stop? Was it with the physician's guidance? Questions to be addressed.
