Sodium balance.: One can reduce the sodium in their body by taking meds that cause the kidneys to excrete extra sodium or by (drinking and eating) very low salt diet. Neither of these is a good idea without discussing with your doc. Normally your body has just the right amount of sodium and a healthy person does not need to monitor levels.

Homeostasis: The body with a healthy kidney has a way of regulating the electrolytes in the system. We say don't eat too much salt as one of the ways it does is to retain water, increase the total volume and increase blood pressure in doing so. If you try to use water pill to just get rid of salt, you get hyponatremia, and a severe one can be fatal. So eat healthy and eat right and let your system do the rest.
