Once you are on an: Optimum dose - it may take 2 to 6 weeks to get a good idea of effectiveness. So- you will need to patient. Don't judge the medication by initial response. It is a medication that is used consistently and usually over a period of time. Side effects can begin right away (you may not have any) and many may start to dissipate w/in days to a few weeks.

Sertaline: Like all other antidepressants, sertaline needs consistent daily dosing for at least 4-6 weeks for effectiveness. Your dose of 50 mg is a starting one, and your doctor will adjust it depending on your response. Another important part of treating depression and anxiety is psychotherapy. If your doctor isn't providing that, you need to ask for referral to a professional psychologist.
