A member asked:

Can an average dose of a benzo actually help a breathing problem by calming one down?

Yes: As a physician, i actually don't recommend addicting medicines for their side effects as medicinal values, but I have to agree to this. What is average dose is the problem. The lowest dose to calm a person and relax the muscles is what has to be attained especially for people wheezing especially if due to voluntary tightening up.

Usually not: First you must establish the cause for your breathing problem. If it is from anything other than anxiety or hyperventilation, you need to control the basic cause (heart failure, asthma, COPD etc). I would not recommend benzo for breathing problems. If you have anxiety attacks, there are likely better drugs for this. I urge you to see an internist.
