A member asked:

Will bursitis under shoulder blade heal and go away forever with a local cortisone shot or is a cortisone shot temporary? bursitis is due to trauma.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Acute vs chronic: Acute bursitis may be a one time event and may not flareup after a corticosteroid injection. However bursitis may recur with repeated injury or wear and tear. Chronic bursitis doesn't completely resolve often because of residual scar tissue.
