Trauma to skull: You have probably suffered an injury to the jaw near or at the temporal-mandibular joint. This injury could be causing your symptoms and you should be checked by your doctor to see if you need any treatment. You may need xrays of the area.

Disk displacement: Tmj stiffnesss can be a symptom, that if left untreated, can lead to more severe problems. The cause of the problem is very significant and normally, if you experience popping/clicking and limited opening (locking) or closing of the jaw, see your dentist/a specialist before your suffering becomes enhanced.

2 probabilities: 1). Damage to temporomandibular joint complex with disc displacement, or 2). Fracture of the bones in and around the joint. You need to see oral surgeon for examination, x-rays, possible MRI or ct scan. Don't let this go, the longer you wait the greater chance your acute problem will become chronic. It hasn't "healed" spontaneously in 6 weeks, don't expect miracles.
