Like bad sore throat: Having your tonsils out is uncomfortable - the pain is like a bad sore throat. For the first several days following surgery, pain in the throat is to be expected. This can usually be controlled with liquid tylenol (acetaminophen) or tylenol with Codeine (prescription will be given at time of surgery). Pain is often worse at night. This will lessen over time and resolve by 2-3 weeks.
