Sinusitis: Allergies can produce swelling that blocks drainage from the sinuses, and secondary sinus inflammation. You may need a decongestant (pseudoephedrine or oxymetozaline nasal spray) or possibly nasal steroids and saline irrigation with a neti-pot. A cold: This is most likely from a common cold and Claritin would not likely do much good. If it gets worse or linger on for more than 10 days , then one would need to check for sinusitis. If the nasal congestion is too severe, there is harm in using an otc decongestant nasal spray for up to 5 days.
