Try both: There is no 'right' answer. Try one, the other or both (at different times) to see if you get some relief. Just be careful not to damage your skin by too much heat or too much cold.

Usually: Usually most people are better by 2 months but a certain percentage have persistent symptoms. These are usually the people i see in consultation. A consultation with a physiatrist would be a good idea.

Yes: The typically mechanism of the whiplash syndrome to the neck is that of a rear end car accident when the driver of the car that is hit has the neck jerked backward and forward which can cause various injuries to the soft tissue of the neck. Most people do well and recover without permanent damage. A small percentage of people do have chronic problems though.

Cannot answer: Not everyone who is involved in a motor vehicle accident gets whiplash which is an injury to the neck. In fact most people do just fine. If you are having pain symptoms after a car accident that do not go away or are severe you should see a doctor and get checked out.

Relatively quickly: Whiplash type injuries, usually get better within 3 to 6 weeks. I would recommend getting involved in a formal physical therapy course. Anti-inflammatory medications. See an orthopedic spinal specialist if your symptoms persist.

Most ok in weeks: The majority of whiplash injuries heal within several weeks to several months. The healing rate is generally better in males v females as the guys have more muscle bulk in the neck which tends to be more protective of injury. For some, the healing can be protracted with some chronic symptoms developing. Time is the biggest healer.
