A member asked:

Why would an ultrasound be done on an enlarged lymph node in the neck?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Verify: That it is a lymph node and not another process such as a lipoma, cyst, etc. Also, ultrasound can suggest whether lymph node enlargement is inflammatory or malignant by seeing if the basic normal anatomy of the node is preserved or not. Lastly, to guide needle biopsy.
