A member asked:

Would an optometrist refer me to an opthamologist if they saw something concerning? would they be able to recognize an issue that needed to be checked

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes and maybe: An optometrist will refer a patient to an opthalmologist if something is seen that the optometrist does not treat. Most optometrists will recognize a disease process and refer if needed.
