Sort of...: Immunization against the meningococcus is recommended although there is no real evidence that the incidence or severity of Meningococcal disease in the asplenic is higher. Pneumococcus is by far the most frequent bug keep up your immunization against it with both the currently approved vaccines for adults, the 23 valent unconjugated one and the newer 13 valent conjugated one.
