Acute phase reaction: If you have some generalized inflammatory, even a minor viral infection you don't even feel, your serum ferritin can go up for a few days by as much as 200. The stuff is released from the storage sites. If you're being worked up for hemochromatosis, it looks like you aren't iron-overloaded, at least yet, but it would be good to keep an eye on the value over the years.
