Can happen: Multi system failure in sepsis is more common than any physician would like. It is ominous and difficult to treat.

Not uncommon: Liver abnormalities are fairly common with a bout of severe sepsis. This is a reflection of changes in blood flow to the vital organs in the body, release of toxins from the agents causing sepsis, as well as other factors that are not well understood. This often is reflected in what is referred to as : multiorgan system failure (mosf). This usually will improve when the sepsis is under control.
