Yes, but...: Many cancers do not shed their cells into the urine. The decision to pursue a further workup in the absence of a positive urine cytology is your physician's, with your input of course. If i had new hematuria, i'd have imaging even with negative cytology. Good luck.

CA cells in urine: Yes actually you can. Your urologist can have you collect the urine and will general have to send it to a pathologist who specializes in looking at urine.
