Nerve in mouth: If you are asking about a nerve in a tooth, there are several reasons why a nerve will die: deep, unrepaired decay, a filling that is too close to the nerve, fracture, trauma, advanced gum infection, chronic teeth grinding or clenching. Most of the time, this will result in an infection requiring a root canal. Sometimes this occurs slowly over many years and is assymptomatic.
