Irregular periods: Normal periods occur about every 4 weeks, last up to 1 week, and do not cause severe pain. Periods which are more frequent or less frequent than about once monthly, last a long time or a very short time, or are accompanied by severe pain, are not normal. A woman should seek a doctor's care if having irregular periods.
