Get evaluated: Foot and ankle wounds, regardless of cause, lead to limb loss at a higher rate after age 65. Go to your doc, wound clinic, minor er to get evaluated. If you have risk factors for artery disease (nicotine, hypertension, diabetes, family history or hyperlipidemia) wound healing could be delayed and infection risk is higher. Be well.

Draining wound: The wound should be evaluated by a wound specialist. The wound fluid/drainage should be appropriately cultured to determine the contents of the drainage, and possibly isolating bacteria that may be causing the wound to drain.
