Not common.: An ileus is not a common complication of hysterectomy. However, it can happen after any abdominal or pelvic surgery. The method used to perform the surgery and the difficulty of performing the surgery will determine the overall risk of ileus. For example, if you have scarring that involves the bowel - risk of ileus goes up. The more the bowel is "messed with" the higher the risk.
