Wondering if it's necessary to remove wisdom teeth that are growing straight and well?

No: If your wisdom teeth have enough room to erupt into the mouth into a functional position enabling you to use them to chew, and you can maintain adequate care of them to prevent decay, periodontal problems or problems with adjacent teeth or structures, you may not need to have them removed.

Not necessarily: Some patients have perfectly erupted wisdom teeth that require no treatment aside from keeping clean. The best approach would be to have an oral surgeon assess your wisdom teeth for expert advice.

Dentist evaluate: Who is making the determination? Have the dentist or orthodontist determine if a referral to an oral surgeon is needed. Teeth that appear normal to the patient are not always radiographically coming in with enough room and need to be addressed. If there is adequate room and the teeth are coming in correctly, no extractions are necessary.
