Yes: Glaucoma is caused by a group of diseases that characteristically damages the optic nerve and may result in blindness if not treated. Currently, there is no cure for glaucoma, but a variety of excellent treatments are available to prevent much of the visual disability that may result from glaucoma. The Glaucoma Research Foundation is a great reference for more information on the topic. Good luck
