Swelling: Standing or dependency causes swelling at the end of the day. Elevation and low salt diet may help.

Many hour on feet: The veins in your legs have valves in them to prevent blood return from back flow. At end of day the fluid could be from the veins essentially being over worked. Lying down help the blood leave the legs to return to the heart. This could be serious - called venous stasis, see primary care doctor for evaluation.
