A member asked:

End stage liver disease, what is the prognosis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not good.: When a liver with cirrhosis is having trouble doing it's job, it's called end-stage liver disease. This means that the liver is beginning to fail. Generally, patient in this setting will die or need transplant within a few years. Having cirrhosis, however, is not the same as end stage liver disease. Only when the liver starts to fail do we call it end stage.
