Is there anaerobic exercise for the heart?

Dr. Ron Eaker answered

Depends: Anaerobic simple refers to a metabolic pathway that is used to provide energy for muscle contraction. It kicks in when adequate oxygen is not readily available to burn in a more efficient aerobic pathway. This happens commonly in rapid sprint like exercise. Both aerobic and anaerobic exercise can contribute to cardiovascular fitness.

Yes and No: There is exercise for the body and heart and lungs. If we surpass our aerobic threshold with vigorous exercise, we convert to anaerobic metabolism (not enough oxygen) to feed the cells that need fuel. This typeoftraining has different effects on physiology than aerobic conditioning and is more intense.
