Passive vs active: In a nutshell: in passive immunity ready made antibodies or antitoxins are given to an individual, while in active immunity, a weakened or dead organism is given to an individual to induce the body to produce its own antibidies against the invading organism, that takes time, so sometimes both passive and active immunizations are given simultaneously to help combating infection
