A member asked:

When should hip replacement patients take antibiotics?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

dental procedures: There is controversy regarding prophylactic antibiotics following hip replacement. We used to recommend them to for life time, to prevent possible infection before dental procedures. The latest data however does not support use of prophylactic antibiotics. The latest recommendation from aaos is no prophylactic antibiotics though there is no universal agreement on this recommendation.
