VERY, very quickly: In a majority of cases, bacteria that causes endocarditis loves in blood. Since endocarditis involves a bacterial infection of the inner heart lining, including the heart valves, they grow especially well in this area and can form vegetations. With blood crossing the valve, the vegetations can flick off and deposit into the lungs or other parts of the body as it spreads quickly in the blood.
