If a pimple pops and the stuff inside gets on other things can the bacteria live on other surfaces like doorknobs or handles? and can it spread?

In general pimples are not due to bacteria transmitted person to person. If you actually have folliculitis due to staph or strep, these could be transmitted. However, people with those problems are shedding the bacteria all over their bodies and they're already all around the house. But usually they cause no problems in others who are exposed. Just use common sense hygiene then no worries.
