Not sure what you: Mean by "explanation?" hydrocodone is a semi-synthetic form of codeine, which is an opiate drug derived from the opium poppy. It attaches to receptors that are concerned with pain, and turns those receptors off, so we do not feel the pain. This occurs at the site of the pain, in the spinal cord and in the brain. Some act at one receptors, and others at multiple receptors, differ in side effects.
