Gimmick: Laser tonsillectomy is almost never necessary, and will make it more painful. Generally ENT surgeons will use one of 3 methods these days: electrocautery pen, "coblation", or a "cold" technique with a tonsil snare. Lasers are usually reserved for cases of tonsil cancer. They are not safer, faster, less expensive, or associated with decreased pain... So don't buy into hype about it.
