In what way is calcification of the prostrate gland treated?

Treated, if symptoms: If you do not have symptoms and calcifications do not associated with malignancy, leave them.

Usually nothing: Prostatic calcifications are a frequent finding on transrectal prostate ultrasound. They are incidental & no treatment is needed. Sometimes during transurethral resection of the prostate, larger prostate stones are found and removed with the "specimen" of tissue. I suspect your calcifications were found incidentally on an X-ray for unrelated cause as TRUS is not ,hardley ever, done at age .

Dr. James Lin answered

No Rx...: The clinical significance of seeing some prostate calcification in its ultrasound exam is unknown and have been considered to have no connection with prostatitis or prostate cancer. So, don't let the info of having stones in the prostate bother you. Clinically, Doc takes care of the symptoms which may be related with prostate enlargement and poor bladder neck relaxation. So, no Rx is needed.
