Specialties: An orthodontist does growth & development supervision and treats malocclusion (bad bite). An endodontist does pain management and treats the infected nerve chambers of teeth. A periodontist is responsible for the bone and gum tissues that support the teeth. All 3 specialties require at least a 2 year 60 hr/wk residency beyond dental school and limit their practice to their specialty.
