Don't be: Breakthrough bleeding... Bleeding when it's not your period, is really really common. Dark blood just means old blood and also isn't dangerous. A strong smell can sometimes be from the blood, but could also be from a bacterial infection in the vagina. Get checked out by a gynecologist to see if you have an infection and discuss this breakthrough bleeding.
