Can be saved: If the stone can be removed before more damage occurs to the kidney, it is likely that you will regain more function in that kidney. You can be tested again after the stone is removed. It is usually not necessary to remove the kidney unless it is a site of uncontrolled infection.

Depends: If the obstructing stone is removed sometimes the kidney can regain some function. It isn't necessary for the kidney to be removed unless it becomes infected.

Urologist: If the obstruction is successfully removed that kidney's function should improve significantly unless the damage done is irreversible. Usually a kidney is not removed unless there is malignancy or extensive abscess formation from infection or the damage causes recurrent infection.Your urologist will guide you.
